Carlos Portugal Gouvêa is the CEO of IDGlobal. He is also an Associate Professor of Corporate Law at the University of São Paulo (USP) and holds a Doctorate in Law from Harvard University (S.J.D., 2008). He was a Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School in 2022, 2024 and 2025. Additionally, Carlos is a partner at PGLaw, where he leads the areas of corporate law, M&A, banking law, and corporate governance. He is licensed to practice law by the Brazilian Bar Association (São Paulo section) and the Supreme Court of the State of New York, USA. Between 2015 and 2018, he served on the Appeals Board of the National Financial System at Brazil’s Ministry of Finance. Carlos has authored numerous works, including the books “A Estrutura da Governança Corporativa” [The Structure of Corporate Governance] and “Análise dos Custos da Desigualdade” [Analyzing the Costs of Inequality]. At USP’s Faculty of Law, he coordinates several study and research groups, including the Law and Poverty Group, the TechLab – Law and Technology, the Journal of Commercial Law, the Center for Asian Legal Studies (CELA), the Third Sector Study Group (G3S), the Center for Corporate Governance (CGC) and the Law, Health, and Social Inequality Group (DS²). Between 2015 and 2018, Carlos was also the Chair of the Inclusion and Belonging Commission at USP’s Faculty of Law. He is a member of Brasa – Brazilian Students Association and Generation. He was also a board member of the Fulbright Commission in Brazil and a founding member of the Sou da Paz Institute.

Dalila Martins Viol is Executive Director of the Institute for Global Law (IDGlobal). Her work at IDGlobal focuses on knowledge production, the training of young researchers, and building partnerships among universities, government, businesses, civil society organizations, and communities. Her research agenda explores legal issues in relation to institutions, markets, and society, with a focus on corporate governance, compliance, regulation, and sustainability. During her Master’s and PhD, she researched compliance programs as a strategy to combat corruption and examined legal reforms related to corporate behavior. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Commercial Law at the University of São Paulo (USP) Law School, where she investigates how law shapes the capacity of Indigenous territories to build economic resilience in the context of the climate crisis. She holds a PhD in Law and Development from FGV Direito SP, with a research period at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Germany; a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Fundação João Pinheiro; and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Federal University of Ouro Preto. Her academic trajectory has received awards and distinctions at different stages, from undergraduate research through her Master’s and PhD. She is the author of Anti-Corruption Corporate Compliance: Legal Reforms in the Global South and North, published by Cambridge University Press.

Fernanda Valle Versiani is the Research Director at IDGlobal. She previously served as Coordinator of the Business Law Study Group (Grupo de Estudos de Direito Empresarial – GEDEMP) and as a Business Law professor at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), Brazil. Currently, she is a Business Law professor at the Faculty of Law of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (FDUFMG), Brazil, where she completed her Master’s and PhD degrees. During her doctoral studies, Fernanda was a FAPEMIG scholarship recipient and conducted part of her research at B3 S.A. – Brasil, Bolsa, Balcão, through the CNPq Business Doctorate Sandwich Program (Doutorado Sanduíche Empresarial), as well as at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany. Her dissertation was selected through FDUFMG’s internal evaluation process to compete for the CAPES Thesis Award and the UFMG Thesis Award in 2021, receiving Honorable Mention in both categories. Her research focuses on Capital Markets and Corporate Law, with an emphasis on Corporate Governance and Sustainable Development.

Vanessa Rodrigues Lopes is the Administrative Director at IDGlobal and oversees the Institute’s administrative and financial operations. Her expertise includes managing accounts payable and receivable, treasury, and invoicing; budget and expense management; financial and strategic planning processes; human resources; as well as administrative decision-making.

Amanda Teles Marques is the Coordinator of the Laboratory for Voices for Social and Environmental Justice (Vozes Lab/IDGlobal). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the State University of Amazonas (UEA), a postgraduate specialization in Human Rights from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), and a Master’s degree in Law from the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM). She was also a Visiting Scholar at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. She has served as an invited specialist at Women 20 Brazil (W20) and is a member of the Network of Indigenous Women of the State of Amazonas. Her professional and research activities focus on socio-environmental rights, with particular emphasis on the protection and advancement of the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Communities.

Deborah Marconcini Bittar is the Academic Coordinator of IDGlobal. She is a Master’s student in International Relations at the University of São Paulo (USP), holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in History at the same institution. Previously, she worked as a researcher at the Center for Human Rights and Business at FGV Law School (FGV Direito SP). Her research focuses on Human Rights, International Relations, History, and Gender.

Adriano Teixeira is a researcher at ID Global, a member of the Mura and Tupinambá indigenous peoples, and a specialist in digital communication and multimedia production. With extensive experience in strategic communication and multiplatform content production, he stands out for developing customized strategies for each territory, combining technology, culture, and sustainability.

Ademir Garcia is a researcher at IDGlobal. He is an Indigenous person from the Kaingang ethnic group, born in Nonoai, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Raised in the Kondá Village in Chapecó (Santa Catarina), he proudly carries the ancestry of his people and the wisdom passed down by his grandfather, Jorge Kagnỹn Garcia, a recognized kujá (shaman) and Kaingang spiritual leader. From an early age, Ademir was involved in the traditional practices, ceremonies, and sacred knowledge of his community. For five years, he worked as an educator at the Indigenous School Sãpe Tỹ Kó in the Kondá Village, teaching literacy to children and contributing to the education of youth and adults. He also served as a bilingual teacher, promoting the teaching of the Kaingang language and valuing Indigenous culture through culturally rooted pedagogical practices. He is currently pursuing a Law degree at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Ademir is a researcher with the PET Conexões de Saberes Youth Public Policies (PPJ) group and a member of the Indigenous University Student Movement. His research areas include memory, identity, and cultural strengthening, such as the creation of a virtual platform called the Indigenous Student Catalog at UFRGS and the Kujá Jorge Kagnỹn Garcia Project, which honors the spiritual and cultural legacy of his grandfather.

Amirele Porto Machado is a researcher at the Global Law Institute (IDGlobal). She belongs to the Guarani/Kaiowá and Terena peoples, from the Jaguapiru Indigenous Territory in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) and a Master’s degree in Law from the Federal University of Pará (UFPA). She was a fellow of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Indigenous Peoples Fellowship Programme. Her research focuses on the rights of Indigenous peoples and the relationship between Indigenous peoples, the justice system, and the State. She has conducted research on the criminalization of Guarani and Kaiowá leaders in Mato Grosso do Sul, particularly in the context of territorial land reclamation. She currently also researches Indigenous linguistic rights, access to justice, and the institutionalization of translation and interpretation into Indigenous languages within the justice system.

Communications Researcher at IDGlobal, an Indigenous member of the Arapaço people from the Upper Rio Negro region of Amazonas, Brazil. With more than eight years of experience in the nonprofit sector and the Indigenous movement, he has been part of the Indigenous Communicators Network since its inception. He is currently studying Information Technology Management and is a scholarship recipient of the Santander Skills for Work 2026 program. He specializes in scriptwriting, creative video editing, graphic design, and the application of Artificial Intelligence to socio-environmental media. He also works as a speaker and workshop facilitator on strategic communication and new media.

Researcher at IDGlobal and a member of the Voices for Social and Environmental Justice Laboratory (Vozes Lab), where she conducts research on the just energy transition, carbon markets, comparative law, and human rights. PhD Candidate in Human Rights at the University of São Paulo Law School (FDUSP), focusing her research on the intersection between critical mineral extraction in Latin America and the rights of Indigenous and traditional peoples. Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of São Paulo Law School at Ribeirão Preto (FDRP/USP), having completed an academic exchange period at the University of Camerino (UNICAM) in Italy (2022–2023). Participated in the Supplementary Training Program in Law and Technology at the State University of Londrina (UEL, 2023–2024). Co-author of the book chapter “Free, Prior, and Informed Consultation in the Energy Transition: The Experience of an Indigenous Territory,” included in the anthology “Sustainability Challenges and COP30,” published during COP30 in Belém, Pará.

Mariana is a researcher at IDGlobal, where she contributes to multidisciplinary research. She is a Master’s student in Environmental Law at the University of São Paulo Law School (FDUSP), where her research focuses on the relationship between human rights and climate change in the Inter-American Human Rights System. She holds a double degree in Law from the University of São Paulo Law School (FDUSP) and Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 (Licence en Droit), with an exchange semester at Sciences Po Paris (Paris School of International Affairs Master’s Exchange Programme). She is currently a teaching assistant in Environmental Law at USP, an editor of the Revista de Direito Mercantil (RDM), and coordinates the Environmental Law Workshop at USP. She previously conducted an undergraduate research project at FDUSP on international climate litigation and human rights, and was a researcher at the OAS Chair and the USP Center for International Studies at USP. Her areas of interest include environmental law, human rights, and public international law.

Maycon Flores do Nascimento is an Indigenous member of the Tikuna people. He is an undergraduate Law student at the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA) and a researcher at the Global Law Institute (IDGlobal). He participated in the process of translating the Federal Constitution into the Tikuna language. His interests include Indigenous issues, with an emphasis on Indigenous rights, languages, and the strengthening of Indigenous peoples.

Rafael Giuseppe Menezes Semenssatto is a Law undergraduate student and has worked as a teaching assistant in the courses of Constitutional Law and Fundamentals of Business Law. He coordinates the research group “Law and Poverty,” which focuses on producing studies on the interactions between law, the roots of poverty in Brazil, and social justice. He is also a member of the group “Law, Discrimination, and Diversity,” dedicated to rethinking legal education and incorporating perspectives on diversity and anti-discrimination into law school curricula. In this context, he was part of the team that presented research at the 14th Empirical Legal Research Meeting. Previously, he interned at the 1st Business and Arbitration-Related Disputes Court of the São Paulo Court of Justice. He has a particular interest in researching human rights, intellectual property, and economic law.

Victor is an intern at ID Global, assigned to support the implementation of the Escuta Sanfran project at the USP Law School. The project aims to promote well-being and provide support to members of the Law School community through various social initiatives, as well as to develop new actions for the Inclusion and Belonging Committee. He is currently one of the coordinators of the USP Research Group on Law, Health, and Inequality, in partnership with the USP University Hospital. He is also a member of the Legal Culture Group in Civil Law. His areas of interest include human rights, children’s and adolescents’ rights, and corporate law.
