We invite our readers and partners to join us on this journey, so that together we can contribute to the advancement of law and the social sciences in the country.

This seal is an evolution of the PGBooks editorial seal, created in 2018 with the intention of collaborating with the dissemination of reference content in Portuguese in the areas of Law and Development and Corporate Governance.

The Structure of Corporate Governance

The book analyzes traditional corporate governance and proposes an alternative focused on the controlling power of legal entities. It explores theories on legal entities, how economic crises have shaped corporate law, and suggests new types of control, including autonomous control with AI. The work highlights “empathetic ethics” and criticizes the cognitive asymmetry caused by AI as a new challenge. In the Brazilian context, it exposes the racial diversity deficit in boards and management, indicating that patriarchy and racial inequality hinder the adoption of new governance practices.

Analyzing the Costs of Inequality: Institutional Effects of the Vicious Cycle of Inequality and Corruption

In this book, Carlos Portugal Gouvêa explores the relationships between institutionalist traditions in economics and law, proposing a dialogue between heterodox thinkers. Focused on extreme inequality, he critiques the simplistic application of institutionalism in Brazil and advocates for an analysis that considers the “costs of inequality” to better understand the impact of wealth on society.

The Anatomy of Corporate Law: A Comparative and Functional Perspective

The third edition of this renowned comparative corporate law overview, translated into Portuguese, includes updates on recent governance changes. It covers the structure of corporate governance in countries such as the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Japan, Italy, and, for the first time, Brazil, highlighting comparisons between dispersed and concentrated control models.
